Privacy policy

What personal data we collect, why, who we share it with, and your rights.

Draft. This policy is being finalised and may change.

This policy explains how Sark collects and uses your personal data, in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and RBI's directions on digital lending.

What we collect

When you ask us to call you

Your name, mobile number, state, district, the loan you're interested in and, for solar loans, the system size you're planning.

When you apply for a loan

Identity and address documents (KYC), bank account details, electricity connection details, your credit report, and information about your rooftop solar installation. Most of this reaches us through JanSamarth and the PM Surya Ghar portal.

Why we use it

  • to call you back about a loan when you have asked us to
  • to check your identity and assess your loan application
  • to disburse, service and collect your loan
  • to meet legal and regulatory requirements, including reporting to credit bureaus

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for unrelated marketing.

Who we share it with

  • credit information companies, to check and report your credit history
  • JanSamarth and the PM Surya Ghar portal, to process your application and subsidy
  • service providers working on our behalf, such as lending service providers named on ourdisclosures page, under contracts that limit how they use your data
  • regulators, courts and law enforcement, when the law requires it

Where it is stored and for how long

Your data is stored on servers in India. We keep it for as long as your loan is active, and afterwards for the period the law requires.

Your rights

  • see the personal data we hold about you
  • correct data that is wrong or incomplete
  • withdraw consent, or ask us to delete data we no longer need. We may need to keep some records by law.
  • nominate someone to act for you if you are unable to
